Message From The Chairman
It is my distinct pleasure to address you as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (now that’s a mouth full, so FCOD for short…).
This is a great time to be a pediatric dentist and more than ever we have reasons to support the College of Diplomates and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
The Foundation of the COD is the fiscal arm of the COD through which you can demonstrate your support towards your chosen specialty in the most significant way. Strength of board certification enhances the status of our specialty in the eyes of our dental and medical colleagues as well as the public.
Still, we all know that achieving board certification is not a final destination. Certification is but a stepping-stone in our lifelong commitment to excellence.
The Foundation supports the COD in its mission to “the advancement of the science and practice of pediatric dentistry through mutual cooperation and study” by supporting the development of continuing education programs of the highest level geared to Diplomates who thrive to continue distinguishing themselves.
The Foundation also recognizes those who came before us and the new stars coming ahead. The Ronald A. Bell Mentor of the Year is given to a Diplomate who has been nominated by fellow Diplomates as an outstanding life long mentor and leader in our specialty. The James Roche Award of Excellence and The Arthur J. Nowak Award of Excellence are given to the top scorers in the ABPD Qualifying Examination and the Oral Clinical Examination, respectively. Recognition of the awardees is done at the Annual Session of the College of Diplomates and includes a monetary award.
In addition to your contributions made during renewal of COD dues, you can also make donations by clicking here . These donations will support development of high quality continuing education programs geared to you and also support the status and recognition of who we are as a specialty, building upon the work of many others who dedicated their life’s work to bring us where we are.
Best wishes for a great year ahead, and I look forward to seeing you at one of the COD educational events and at the next Annual Breakfast - a 50 year tradition that is just starting to grow!
